Apple Business Connect · Roadmap step 1
Claimed is not the same as fed.
Prepared for Halstead Heat & Air
—Why this step matters
Step 1 · Apple Business Connect on the roadmap
Every iPhone map, every Siri answer, every CarPlay search. Most businesses around here have never claimed theirs, which makes it the cheapest ground on the whole road to take.
What follows is one worked example. Halstead Heat & Air does not exist. The platform behavior described is real and is linked to the vendor's own documentation.
01Seen a fraction as often, on a map you already own
Halstead had claimed Apple. That is where it stopped. In June the place card was seen 1,363 times against Google's 5,337 — 3.9× fewer, on the map that comes installed on every iPhone in the county.
| Google Business Profile | Apple place card | |
|---|---|---|
| Seen in June | 5,337 | 1,363 |
| Calls | 67 | 18 |
| Direction requests | 215 | 41 |
| Act rate | 5.3% | 4.3% |
The act rates are close. That is the point: when somebody does find the Apple card they behave much the same as they do on Google. The gap is not that Apple converts worse. The gap is that almost nothing is there to find.
02What a place card can carry
Apple gives a business the same kind of control Google does, and hardly anybody uses it:
- Logo and photos — these appear across Maps, Safari, Spotlight and Siri, not only in the Maps app.
- Categories and hours — the same job as Google's, done separately, because the two do not talk to each other.
- Action links — custom buttons straight on the card. For a trade business: Book an estimate, Emergency service, Call. A restaurant would use Menu and Reservations.
- Showcases — a promotion slot on the card itself, for seasonal offers. Halstead runs spring tune-ups here from March.

03What was on the card, and what is now
| Slot | As found | As completed |
|---|---|---|
| Logo | none | added |
| Photos | none | 18, same set as Google |
| Categories | 1, generic | HVAC, matched to Google |
| Hours | set, never updated | set, plus holiday dates |
| Action links | none | Book an estimate · Emergency service |
| Showcases | none | seasonal, changed quarterly |
None of this costs anything. The whole job is an afternoon, and then fifteen minutes a quarter.
04Why this one is worth doing before the paid work
Advertising multiplies whatever is already there. So does a map listing, and this one has no competition on it — when we checked the nine towns Halstead serves, most of the trade had never claimed an Apple card at all.
It will not beat Google on volume. It does not need to. It needs to stop being the one place a customer looks you up and finds a gray pin with no photo, next to a competitor who has one.
