How much cash is standing still?
If you contract or install, “stock” is your unbilled work. It has never been called inventory in a contractor's books and it behaves exactly like it.
between paying for work and being paid for it
That is about $780,000 of your own cash standing still. Taking one week off the cycle would free roughly $96,000 of it — once, and then it stays free.
Days of stock plus days collecting, less days paying, against revenue a day. Count your buffer net of the sales and payroll tax you are holding: that is money in the account that is not yours.
What this is telling you
Every day between paying for work and being paid for it is a day your own money is standing still. It is not lost and it is not profit — it is cash you have already spent and cannot spend again.
Inventory is usually the largest of the three and the one you control most directly. It is also the one that quietly builds against a forecast that is wrong.
One thing that flatters this number
Count your buffer net of the sales and payroll tax sitting in your account. That money is not yours, it has a date on it, and treating it as cushion is the most common way a business is closer to the edge than its bank balance suggests.
This is step 12 on the roadmap →Everything here is arithmetic on the numbers you typed. No request is made, nothing is stored, and there is no email gate — which is the whole reason anyone moves the sliders honestly.
